New galleries, hosts and a Golden Hall
This coming season, visitors to the region can look forward to lots of new attractions. Star architect Francis Kéré is building the Museum Ehrhardt in the Mecklenburg town of Plüschow, the Pomeranian State Museum is opening its Gallery of Romanticism for the first season, and in Binz the HYPARFORUM is sure to make a splash. In a nutshell: the north-east has a variety of new accommodation, events and leisure formats in store for 2026. Here are a few of the new attractions:
Views of Eternity: Gallery of Romanticism opens in Greifswald
The Gallery of Romanticism has recently opened at the Pomeranian State Museum in the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald. The aim of the new exhibit is to permanently establish Greifswald as the official Caspar-David-Friedrich city and the Pomeranian State Museum as the cultural beacon of romanticism in the North. In a chapel, a multimedia installation called ‘Ausblicke ins Unendliche’ (Views of Eternity) will prepare guests for Friedrich’s poetic imagery at the start of the tour. Visitors can also look forward to an installation where Friedrich’s paintings, mood lighting and photographs of the places that inspired him blend together. The Sparkasse Vorpommern savings bank chips in two euros of the ticket price for the first one thousand guests of the Gallery of Romanticism, and from January to March pays the admission for all children visiting the gallery with their families.

This special exhibit will show outstanding works of art from international museums at regular intervals. Currently, three paintings by Rembrandt are on exhibit, on loan from the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam: ‘The Landscape with a Stone Bridge’, ‘Self-portrait as the Apostle Paul’ and ‘The Denial of St Peter’. As a special treat for all guests, for four years, admission to the museum will be free, made possible by the Dorit & Alexander Otto Foundation and the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Star architect Francis Kéré develops and builds Museum Ehrhardt in Plüschow
A new museum for photography and contemporary art spanning 1,400 square metres is being built in Plüschow near the World Heritage city of Wismar. The project was initiated by Dr Jens Ehrhardt, son of the artist Alfred Ehrhardt, and Elke Weicht-Ehrhardt. Alfred Ehrhardt (1901–1984) was one of the leading artists of the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) movement. His work as a painter, photographer and film maker had a lasting impact on art appreciation in Germany in the 20th century. The Museum Ehrhardt is the first museum building developed in Europe by his Berlin-based architecture firm. The design of the Museum Ehrhardt is consistent with the philosophy of Kéré Architecture of creating simple but high-quality architecture that draws on regional building techniques and incorporates local resources. The digital construction board provides information on the current status of the project. The project is being realised in cooperation with HK Architekten, who are responsible for the planning process.
